Final Assignment - Artist Statement

Title : Time and Space ( Journey of Life )

My video regarding time and space is entitled 'Journey of Life'. From this video, the term time is illustrated by the duration that the tree took to grow. It symbolize the aging process of one's life. The term space is illustrated on how the tree's growth consumes the landscape. It symbolize the journey we are going through and how everything fills our life and our surroundings.

From the seed of life, each letter, one by one transform into something significant in life.

L.I.F.E.

LOVE - the letter 'l' in life transform to become the roots of the tree. The spaces between the roots formed the word 'love'. The message behind this is that love should be our root. It should be the reason behind all good things in life.

IDENTITY - the letter 'i' in the word 'life' transform to become the tree trunk in the form of the word 'identity'. The message behind this is to say that our identity, our characteristic should be rigid and strong. It also meant that our identity should be rooted with love.

FAMILY - the letter 'f' in the word 'life' transform to become the tree branches in the form of the word 'family'. this symbolize that family will always help protect us and will always be there to comfort us. It also meant that family should always be our top priority.

EXPERIENCE - the letter 'e' in the word 'life' transform to become the fruits of the tree in the form of the word 'experience'. it symbollize that through out our journey of life, what we learn and gone through will become our experience. And with our experience, we can share them to educate or help others. In other words, in the end, our experiences will become our legacy.

Artist Statement

The concept i m using is based on War on Poverty.
My inspiration is based on all the quotes i have posted on this blog.
But i figured instead of portraying the negative views or literal portrait regarding it, i came out with a graphic representation of something that seemly tragic or sad but actually containing a positive meaning behind it.
Following are the breakdown of my artwork:

Milk carton

In my opinion, there r 2 main needs in life - food and shelter.
Milk is a meal everyone should have. It was our first meal ever and the only meal we had for a few months of our early life. Our body grew healthy solely on a diet consist of only milk.
For those without food or very little of it, it's hard for the mother to produce enough milk or produce milk that nutritious enough for the baby and often resulting malnourishment and also death.

Blood

For many, the sight of blood often means injury, tragedy and death.
In my artwork, the blood symbolize life.
Blood carries all the oxygen n nutrients we need throughout our body.
Blood also keeps our body warm by regulating heat to our skin.

Hole on the box

It symbolize sacrifice,charity and compassion.

In whole, i m trying to give a message that if we can be unselfish enough to poke a hole and give or share a bit of our resources to those who need it, we are not just giving food or money..we r donating blood into their body.

A short video to promote awareness on poverty in Africa.
But so far only received 37,000 views.
From that 37,000, how many actually take the initiative to do something about it?
